NEWS BRIEFS: Irrigation fest volunteers are needed … and other items

SEQUIM — The Sequim Irrigation Festival Innovative Arts & Crafts Fair seeks volunteers to assist with various duties beginning Friday.

Registration is required.

Duties will begin with unloading a storage unit at 9 a.m. at Civic Plaza, 152 W. Cedar St., and will be followed by site setup for the Reuse Showcase area at 11 a.m.

On Saturday, volunteers will help with the information booth, art project assistant, reuse showcase attendant, as well as food and music area cleanup.

On Sunday, May 6, available duties are — but not limited to — grounds preparation and 4 p.m. event tear down.

PT coffee talk

PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend Main Street Program will host its spring merchant coffee talk titled “Shine a Light on Your Business” from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, May 9.

Those interested in attending must make reservations before Monday, May 7.

They can be placed by emailing admin@mainstreet.org or calling the program’s office at 360-385-7911.

The cost for the event at the Cotton Building, 607 Water St., is $5 for Main Street members and $7 for nonmembers.

Speakers including Mike Kenna, CEO of Printery Communications; Kelle Kitchel-Cooper, RFG Creative; Lloyd Mullen, Port Townsend Leader publisher; Jan Halliday, Port Townsend Film Festival marketing and communications director; and Frank Iuro of PT Shirt Company will dicuss various tips and advice for business publicity and marketing.

Refreshments will be served.

Mindfulness program

PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson Healthcare will offer two Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program classes beginning Saturday, May 12.

Preregistration is required.

The program costs $60. Scholarships are available and practice CDs as well as a workbook for home practice will be included in the cost.

Both classes will occur at Jefferson Healthcare’s Dirksen Conference at 834 Sheridan St., with the May 12 class held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and the Tuesday, May 29 class from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The first class will focus on Jon Kabat Zinn’s mindfulness work, including seven essential mindfulness concepts and three practices to refresh personal mindfulness.

More practice, as well as addressing problems will be covered during the second session.
