NEWS BRIEFS: Home Depot Safety Fair this Saturday highlights firearm safety … and other items

SEQUIM — The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office will participate in The Home Depot Safety Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

The sheriff’s marine unit, chain gang and community policing volunteers will be present at the fair at 1145 W. Washington St.

An area for firearms safety will be available in preparation for the encroaching hunting season, according to a news release.

It will be first use of the Eddie the Eagle Mascot Costume, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Eddie the Eagle is a mascot for gun safety that the Sheriff’s Office received from the National Rifle Association.

Unity speaker

PORT ANGELES — Unity in the Olympics’ 10:30 a.m. Sunday service speaker will be Timothy West.

His lesson at the church at 2917 E. Myrtle St. is titled “Pitfalls on the Path.”

West is a Unity prayer chaplain, as well as a youth and family ministry director.

A time for silent meditation will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

Child care is available during the service.

Advanced education

PORT LUDLOW — Port Ludlow Community Church will host Steve Shoop for a presentation at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

Shoop, director of Engage International, will share the mission and vision of Engage at the church, 9534 Oak Bay Road.

Engage was established to create a path for college-age students to respond to the call of God on their life and to impact global communities while acquiring a higher education, according to a news release.

Engage provides opportunities for students to pursue ministry experience while acquiring higher education through regionally accredited education partner schools, creating cross-cultural ministry experiences on the mission field, mentoring students to be Christ-followers and collaborating with national churches, according to the release.
