Book-to-film talks
The North Olympic Library System is launching a new book-to-film discussion group at the Port Angeles and Sequim libraries.
Page2Screen is a forum that explores themes and issues in classic and contemporary books and the movies inspired by them.
Participants can speak their minds as a book and film critic in a roundtable setting.
This group is free and open to the public and meets on the last Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m., alternating monthly between the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., and the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave.
The schedule is as follows:

■ Aug. 26 — Port Angeles Library, Big Fish by Daniel Wallace.

Civil service apps
SEQUIM — The city is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy on the Civil Service Commission.
This voluntary commission meets the first Tuesday of each month at
8:30 a.m.
The group performs the duties established by state law in connection with the selection, appointment and employment of personnel at the Sequim Police Department.
The six-year term for this position expires Dec. 31, 2015.
State law requires that appointees to this commission be a registered voter of Clallam County, a U.S. citizen and a resident of the city of Sequim at least three years immediately preceding their appointment to the commission.

Dean’s list honoree
ELLENSBURG — Cameron Johnson, a 2010 Port Townsend High School graduate, has been named to the dean’s list at Central Washington University for both the winter and spring quarters.
Johnson is working toward a degree in law and justice.
One-woman performance slated today
PORT TOWNSEND — Unity of Port Townsend will host internationally known teacher, healing practitioner and spiritual comedienne Sharon Mehdi for a one-woman performance titled “She Never Said Her Name Was Mary.”
The event will be at the Unity Spiritual Enrichment Center, 3918 San Juan Ave., at 7 tonight.
Tickets will be available at the door for $10.
Mehdi’s performance is a true and personal story of the mystery and miracles of forgiveness and healing surrounding the Black Madonna, known as Our Lady of Chartres, and the famous 12th-century cathedral in which she resides, according to a news release.

AGNEW — Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 73 Howe Road, will hold a sermon, “Embodied Soul Seeks Transformative Pilgrimage,” at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.

‘Think Holy Spirit’
PORT ANGELES — Unity in the Olympics, 2917 E. Myrtle St., will hold a 10:30 a.m. service Sunday.
The guest speaker is the Rev. Deborah Brandt, whose topic is “Think Holy Spirit.” She will discuss the role of the Holy Spirit in New Thought.
Brandt is an award-winning journalist. She spent more than 30 years in broadcasting, retiring from that industry in 2007.
Since that time, she has obtained a bachelor’s degree in metaphysical science and has become an ordained minister.
Free child care is available during the service.
A time for silent meditation will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.
All are welcome.
Kids comedy show
Alex Zerbe’s comedy extravaganza will return to the North Olympic Library System on Monday and Tuesday.
Performances Monday will be held at the Clallam Bay Library, 16990 state Highway 112, at 2 p.m. and at the Forks Library, 71 S. Forks Ave., at 5:30 p.m.
On Tuesday, Zerbe will perform at the Sequim Library, 630 N. Sequim Ave., at 10:30 a.m. and at the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St., at 2 p.m.
Zerbe harpoons vegetables launched from a giant slingshot, performs music looping and demonstrates games from the other side of the planet. He is a Guinness World Record holder who was voted Seattle’s Funniest Prop Comic.
Entertainment is suitable for kids of all ages.
