NEWS BRIEFS: Friends of the NRA to hold annual dinner in Port Angeles … and other items

PORT ANGELES — The Northwest Peninsula Friends of the National Rifle Association will hold its annual dinner and auction fundraiser Saturday, March 10.

Tickets to the event are $40 per person. They are available to purchase by visiting www.friendsofnra.org.

The evening’s events including games, raffles, a silent auction and live auction of firearms will kick off at 5:30 p.m. at the Vern Burton Community Center, 308 E. Fourth St.

Proceeds from the auction will benefit the NRA Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization, and separate from the National Rifle Association.

Grants from the foundation benefit shooting sports in the state, such as shooting range improvements and purchasing firearms and equipment for 4-H and school shooting teams, according to a news release.

Travel program orientation

PORT HADLOCK — The Northwest Maritime Center has set its sights on attending three internationalwooden boat festivals and will hold a public planning party on Sunday, March 4.

Those interested in joining the center on its travels, are invited to attend the 2 p.m. event at the center,431 Water St.

Event organizers will be available at the meeting to answer questions about the trip, how to get involved, and costs.

The first festival the center plans to visit is the Trebåtfestival in Risør, Norway, August 2018.

“Organizers will focus on curating adventures that get participants off the beaten track and up close andpersonal with three festivals and the flotilla currently on the calendar,” according to a news release.

Other trips planned include the British Virgin Islands Flotilla from Jan. 2 to 10, 2019, and the AustralianWooden Boat Festival following in Tasmania on Feb. 2 to 11, 2019.

Landing practice

COUPEVILLE — Field carrier landing practice operations for aircraft will commence at the Naval OutlyingField Coupeville early afternoon to evening Monday through Thursday.

Training also will occur early afternoon Friday.

WSU fall graduates

PULLMAN — Several former North Olympic Peninsula students earned undergraduate degrees from Washington State University during its fall quarter.

Honors earned by students are magna cum laude for a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.70 but less than 3.90 and cum laude for a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 but less than 3.70.

The students are:

Brinnon: Arlene Kerrigan, Bachelor of Arts in social services.

Port Angeles: Sierra Jaidyn Baublits, Bachelor of Arts in human development; Richard Joseph Visell, Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering, magna cum laude; and Lindsey Jordan Wilson, Bachelor of Arts in sports management, magna cum laude.

Port Ludlow: Shannon Renee Quayle, Bachelor of Arts in hospitality business management.

Port Townsend: Anthonie Cullen, Bachelor of Science in psychology, cum laude.
