OLYMPIC NATIONAL FOREST — Donkey Creek Road, also known as Forest Road 22, will be closed for repairs between U.S. Highway 101 and Milepost 8 on Tuesday.
The Pacific Ranger District will make road pavement repairs beginning today, with a full road closure planned Tuesday.
The road is expected to be reopened Wednesday.
Users can bypass the work by using Newbury Creek Road, also known as Forest Road 2220.
Donkey Creek Road is between Quinault and Wynoochee.

Certification OK’d
PORT ANGELES — Joel Dressel, a second-year Clallam County code compliance officer, has become a certified building official with the International Code Council, Community Development Director Sheila Roark Miller told county commissioners this week.
Dressel studied volumes of code manuals on his own time and recently passed a pair of lengthy exams in Tukwila to earn the “very prestigious” distinction, Roark Miller said Tuesday.
Roark Miller, who is running for a second four-year team as the nation’s only elected community development director this year, is also a certified building official.
“It’s a really tough test,” Roark Miller said.
Dressel’s certification “gives our office a better anchor for those codes,” she added.
Prior to his arrival in the Clallam County Permit Center, Dressel worked as a union carpenter.
Attending the ceremony were Dressel’s wife and daughters.
Free HU Song set in Sequim this Sunday
SEQUIM — A free Community HU Song event will be held in the Sequim Library auditorium, 630 N. Sequim Ave., from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
The HU Song is an ancient invocation used to open the consciousness to the heavenly light and sound of God, resulting in mystical experiences, spiritual insights and states of enlightenment and inner peace, according to a news release.
Participants will be taught how to sing the HU, practice it for 20 minutes and ask any questions.
There will follow an open discussion on the topic “Does God Speak to You?” at 11 a.m. in which participants cn share and learn various ways God speaks to all of life.
Participants can meet like-minded people with common interests in learning more about expanding their spiritual awareness in everyday living.
They also can share stories and experiences or just listen to others share theirs in a nonjudgmental discussion.

‘Divine’ lecture
PORT ANGELES — The Rev. Rosella Turner will speak at Unity in the Olympics, 2917 E. Myrtle St., at the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday.
Turner will present the lesson “The Divine Invitation.”
Participants will explore answering the divine invitation as they uncover how the divine shines through dreams, according to a news release.
Turner has been involved with Unity for 30 years and became a Unity minister in 2004.
Free child care is available during the service.
A time for silent meditation will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.
Oneness Blessings
AGNEW — The Peninsula Oneness Blessings group will hold its monthly Oneness Blessings Circle at Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 70 Howe Road, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
Participants can receive Blessings of Divine Grace given by certified blessing givers.
The blessings are not associated with any particular religion or belief and are nondenominational in origin. No teachings or dogma will take place.
All are welcome with the exception of children younger than 10.
There is no charge for the blessings, though donations are accepted to help pay for the space rental.

Airman graduates
SAN ANTONIO — Air Force Airman Alexander H. Jenkins recently graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland.
The airman is a 2011 graduate of Sequim High School.
Jenkins completed an intensive eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.
Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an Associate in Applied Science through the Community College of the Air Force.
Jenkins earned distinction as an honor graduate.
He is the son of Jetedia D. Kaetterhenry and Tammera C. Jenkins of Sequim.
Piano recital
PORT ANGELES — Piano students from the studio of Joan Quigley recently presented a recital of solos, duets and a Bach piano quartet at First Presbyterian Church.
The recital featured an original composition by Katie Cobb titled “Memories.”
Recital participants included Jack Kendle, Jayvyn Greif, Anthony Jones, Clara Ray, Carson Mordecai-Smith, Ewan Mordecai-Smith, Imogen Fraser, Ben Kennedy, Coen Cronk, Kathryn Jones, Faith McFall, Catie Brown, Joe Hill, Julianna Quarto, Miles Wait, Winston Wait, Emily Landers, Mason Reynolds, Victoria Krause, Alex Hertzog, Adam Watkins, Skyler Sullivan, Amelie Atwater, Emma Weller, Katie Cobb, Charles Krause, Alisyn Boyd and Lucah Folden.
A reception followed the recital. The students celebrated with a pizza party in the studio.

Juris doctorate
PORT ANGELES — Killian Doherty of Port Angeles was recently awarded a juris doctor degree from the University of Oregon Law School, with certifications in environmental and natural resources law, ocean and coastal law, and international law.
A 2002 Port Angeles High School graduate, Killian also has earned a baccalaureate degree in linguistics from Western Washington University.
She’s also earned a master’s degree in development management and policy from Georgetown University and the Universidad National de General San Martin Escuela de Political y Gobierno in Buenos Aires.
