PORT LUDLOW — A driver managed to escape uninjured from a car fire that engulfed her vehicle Sunday.
Port Ludlow Fire & Rescue responded to a fully involved vehicle fire in the parking lot of the Port Ludlow Golf Course on Sunday, according to a press release.
The driver of the vehicle, who was headed to the golf course at 751 Highland Drive, said the car was not responding normally as she drove up Highland Drive before smoke started coming out from under the hood.
She quickly pulled into the parking lot and got out of the car. No one else was in the vehicle.
After arriving at the scene, fire crews had the fire extinguished in less than five minutes, according to Chief Brad Martin.
“It appears the car is a total loss,” Martin said.
The driver was not named by Port Ludlow Fire & Rescue.
Operation Valentine
PORT ANGELES — Drennan & Ford Funeral Home’s seventh annual Operation Valentine — a local card-making donation program — recieved more than 2,200 cards this year.
The handmade cards were sent in from students and teachers from nine Clallam County Schools, Scouts, youth groups, churches, Elks Naval Lodge No. 353, businesses and local residents.
Jerry Rettela and Chuck Gagnon of the Korean War Veterans Association No. 310 will distribute the cards to Clallam County active-duty personnel across the North Olympic Peninsula and Puget Sound regions.

Career Days
PORT TOWNSEND — For the 22nd year, AAUW Port Townsend will sponsor Career Days for eighth-grade students at East Jefferson County public schools.
Chimacum Middle School will host presenters Tuesday, Feb. 21 for students from Chimacum, Quilcene and Brinnon. Blue Heron Middle School will host presenters Thursday, March 2 for Port Townsend students.
Career Day speakers will describe and answer questions about their careers in veterinary science, public safety, public health, ocean science, state parks, public utilities, physical therapy, videography, welding and shipbuilding.
