PORT ANGELES — A free talk on Elwha River restoration will be the next installment of the Perspectives Winter Speakers Series from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.
Olympic National Park geomorphologist Andrew Ritchie will present “Free at Last: Elwha River Through Three Years of Dam Removal” at the Olympic National Park Visitor Center, 3002 Mount Angeles Road.
During the past three years, the Elwha Valley has undergone dramatic changes as sediment trapped behind dams was freed through the $325 million restoration project.
Ritchie will discuss how the river has responded to the shift from a sediment-starved to sediment-rich system.
Time-lapse videos and fly-throughs will be the highlights of the evening.

Internet safety topic of talk today
PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles Healthy Youth Coalition and the Bullying Reduction and Violence Elimination (BRAVE) Committee will offer a free presentation on Internet and social media at the Port Angeles High School Performing Arts Center, 304 E. Park Ave.
“Internet/Social Media Safety and Digital Citizenship” is from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. today.
The event is open to the general public, especially parents.
Personal Protection Systems Inc. representative Darren Laur, also a law enforcement professional with 29 years of policing experience, will present.

‘Winter Impressions’
PORT LUDLOW — The many artists featured in the group Artist of the Month show at Sound Community Bank on Oak Bay Road are sharing their talents in “Winter Impressions.”
The show will be on display both this month and in January in the bank lobby, with an opening reception planned for Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The reception continues next door at the Port Ludlow Artists’ League Gallery, where attendees can meet the artists and have a glass of wine and hors d’oeuvres with them from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Veterans Giving Tree
PORT ANGELES — The VFW Post 1024 and its Ladies Auxiliary will present their Veterans Giving Tree at the Eagles Club, 2843 E. Myrtle St.
There are 69 tags on the tree for home-bound veterans and ones in nursing homes.
Donors are asked take a tag, purchase the gift and return it unwrapped no later than Saturday.
The Eagles Aerie opens at 11 a.m. and is open seven days a week.
