PORT ANGELES — Drivers will encounter a single-lane closure and alternating traffic conditions on the U.S. Highway 101 Elwha River bridge near Port Angeles from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. this coming Monday.
The monthly inspection for the Elwha River bridge west of Port Angeles has been postponed from Friday until Monday, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The inspection was postponed to accommodate crews’ schedules, said spokesperson Claudia Bingham Baker.
Transportation is encouraging drivers to plan ahead for extra travel time.
Transportation is keeping a close eye on the bridge following erosion around bridge piers that occurred after the two Elwha River dams were removed.

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles School Board will consider a policy concerning homeless students after hearing a report on them when it meets Thursday.
The board will meet in regular session at 7 p.m. in the Central Services Building, 216 E. Fourth St.
At 5:30 p.m., it will interview candidates for the student representative position.
At 6:30 p.m., it will conduct an executive session to consider employment or dismissal of personnel, review the performance of a public employee, consult with legal counsel, consider the position to be taken in collective bargaining, or to consider acquisition or sale of real estate.
The board will hear a report on homeless students before considering a policy for them on a first reading.
Other policies to be considered include those relating to public access to records, distribution of materials and education of students with disabilities.
The board also will consider board committee assignments and approval of an additional human resources position.
Superintendent Marc Jackson will lead a discussion with the board on a capital levy board work session before the Jan. 19 board meeting.
