NEWS BRIEFS: Electronic warfare discussion set Wednesday in Port Angeles . . . and other items

PORT ANGELES — Clallam County Democrats will hear from former County Commissioner Ron Richards and others regarding the U.S. Navy’s proposal for an electronic warfare training and testing program in Olympic National Forest this coming Wednesday.

The meeting will be at 6 p.m. at Democratic headquarters, 124-A First St.

A discussion and question-and-answer period will follow.

Members of the public who are interested in this topic are encouraged to attend.

Car wash set Saturday in PA

PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula International Relations Association will hold a car wash fundraiser at Les Schwab, 2527 E. U.S. Highway 101, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The event is for student exchange expenses for the Sister Cities and Sister Schools trip to Mutsu, Japan, for the 20th anniversary celebration in May.

A delegation of Port Angeles citizens and students will travel for 10 days in Japan.

All proceeds raised will go to help with Port Angeles High School student expenses.

Scholarship funds

PORT ANGELES — Single mothers attending Peninsula College during the 2014-15 academic year can apply for a $1,000 Bright Haygood Copsey Scholarship at www.tinyurl.com/PDN-PCscholars.

The application deadline is April 30.
