SEQUIM — The Clallam County Genealogical Society will host fishing guide and Peninsula Daily News columnist Pat Neal at the group’s next lecture, set for 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, March 9, at the Dungeness Lutheran Church, at 925 N. Sequim Ave.
Neal will present a slideshow and lecture titled “The Natural History of the Olympic Peninsula.”
Neal is a fishing guide on the Hoh River on the Olympic Peninsula’s West End.
He began writing his column in 1998 and is now featured on the Peninsula Daily News’ commentary page.
According to a press release, his presentation’s stories combine his research as a historian with humorous observations of the natural world and the “wild and woolly life” of a guide on the rivers of the rainforest.
Neal’s contribution to identifying and evaluating the historical importance of historic places and the people who lived the history of the Olympic Peninsula has earned recognition with an award for Special Achievement in Historic Preservation by Gov. Jay Inslee.
The community is invited to attend the event. Society meetings are open to the public at no cost.
Participants are encouraged to arrive 15-20 minutes early to register, have a cup of coffee and visit.

Artists sought
SEQUIM — Olympic Theatre Arts is seeking local artists to create original images for the upcoming plays in the theater’s 2019-20 season.
The theater will review art from submitted portfolios, websites or facebook pages and then pair selected artists with a production that suits the artist’s style.
Completed art will be used in each production’s visual campaign and raffled during the run of the show.
All raffle proceeds will go to the artists, each of whom will receive an advance of $100 on delivery of their piece.

OCEAN school open house is scheduled
PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend School District is set to host an open house at 7 p.m. March 14.
The open house will be held in portable classroom 800 on the Blue Heron campus, 3939 San Juan Ave.
The open house is for families considering enrolling students into the 2019-20 OCEAN K-12 program.
According to a press release, the Opportunity, Community, Experience, Academics and Navigation, or OCEAN, program is an alternative learning environment that offers individualized standards-based instruction that integrates the rich cultural heritage of the Port Townsend community.
Additionally, the program offers multi-age learning environments and family involvement in education.

MELBOURNE, Fla. — The Florida Institute of Technology recently announced that Port
Angeles resident Carter Juskevich was named
to the fall 2018 dean’s list.
To be included on the dean’s list, students must complete 12 or more graded credits with a semester grade-point average of at least 3.4.
