NEWS BRIEFS: Coffee with mayor today in Sequim … and other items

SEQUIM — The city of Sequim’s “Coffee with the Mayor” program will continue this month with a meeting today.

Sequim residents can meet informally with Mayor Dennis Smith at 8:30 a.m. at the Bell Creek Bar and Grill, 707 E. Washington St.

Administrative Services Director Sue Hagener will join the mayor.

The mayor will be at the eatery each month to listen to anyone who wants to chat, ask questions, express a concern or make a comment about the city or the community.

For more information, email Smith at dsmith@sequimwa.gov.

Society meeting

CHIMACUM — The Jefferson County Genealogy Society will meet at the Tri-Area Community Center, 10 West Valley Road, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Jesse Stewart, in her annual presentation, “Some Family Trees Have More Knots in Them Than Others,” will use a variety of research techniques and records to reconsider some “knotty” problems to help in genealogical research.

This event is free and open to the public, though donations are accepted.

A meet-and-greet will precede the presentation from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

For more information, contact Judy Tough at 360-385-3065 or tough@olympus.net, or visit www.wajcgs.org.

Volunteers needed

SEQUIM — The North Olympic Salmon Coalition is calling for volunteers to help plant at Dungeness Bay from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

American Dungeness plugs (Leymus mollis) will be planted in the restored wetland complex at Meadowbrook Creek estuary just east of the Dungeness River.

There will also be a staff-led discussion about how this restoration project impacts both the community and the native wildlife.

Tools and gloves will be provided but are in limited supply, so bring your own garden trowels and shovels for personal use if possible.

Light refreshments also will be available.

Bring warm and waterproof layers, water, warm beverages and a lunch.

To attend, RSVP to Olivia Vito at outreach@nosc.org or 360-379-8051.
