OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK — A U.S. Coast Guard crew from Port Angeles helped a 17-year-old girl after she fell 100 feet while hiking near the staircase of Home Sweet Home in Olympic National Park on Saturday.
The MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station/Sector Field Office Port Angeles hoisted the hiker and transferred her to Olympic Medical Center personnel, according to a Coast Guard news release.
Once the helicopter crew landed, a rescue swimmer climbed to the hiker.
The helicopter crew then lifted back off and lowered the litter to the swimmer, who stayed with the hiker while the crew refueled.
The hiker reported numbness on her right side and pain in her neck.
Reaccreditation
SPOKANE — The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office recently received a plaque for achieving reaccreditation during a Washington Association of Sheriffs & Police Chiefs conference at the Spokane Convention Center.
The sheriff’s office was one of seven law enforcement agencies that completed a rigorous on-site review of more than 130 standards relating to best policing practices, according to a news release.
The sheriff’s office received its initial accreditation in 2009. This is the second accreditation, representing eight continuous years of compliance with standards, statutes and best practices, according to the release.
The reaccreditation effort was led by Lorraine Shore, administrative coordinator for the sheriff’s office.
