Two presentations on how to start a co-op will be held in East Jefferson County.
One will be Thursday at Quimper Grange, 1219 Corona St., Port Townsend and the other will be Feb. 28, at Chimacum Grange, 9572 Rhody Drive, Chimacum. Both are at 7 p.m.
Admission to the events is a suggested $5 donation.
During the events, attendees can discover how to start a local co-op. Also covered will be different types of co-ops and how they benefit workers, farmers, producers, as well as those seeking fair housing.
The events are sponsored by Chimacum Grange, Quimper Grange, Northwest Cooperative Development Center, Port Townsend Food Co-op, and Olympic Cooperative Network

Local teachers awarded
PORT TOWNSEND — The Jefferson County School Retirees Association distributed $2,160 in grants to 15local teachers recently.
The teachers were Heidi Budneck and Lisa Johnson, Brinnon School District; Jim Betteley, Al Gonzalez, HeidiJohnson and Kate Miller, Chimacum School District; and Tim Behrenfeld, Paula Collet, Amos Freeman,Karmen Meier, Don Oliviera, Lisa Olsen, Kaleen Steinke, Dorothy Stengel, and Mark Tallarico, PortTownsend School District.
The grants provide up to $150 each for special classroom projects not funded by regular school districtbudget funds, according to a news release.
Teaching kits, audio equipment, construction materials and special art supplies were among the items forwhich teachers requested cash support, according to the release.
PT sunrise students
PORT TOWNSEND — The Sunrise Rotary Club of Port Townsend named two Port Townsend High School students as its January Students of the Month.
Emmett Erickson and Ingrid Schultz, both seniors, were honored during a Jan. 17 rotary meeting.
Both students were selected by high school teachers, coaches and club advisers for “pursuing knowledge beyond that of a grade,” and displaying “intellectual honesty and risk taking by exploring challenging ideas and taking on projects that stretched their thinking.”
Erickson is the son of Dr. Steve and Kathy Erickson of Port Townsend.
Schultz is the daughter of Steve and Winkie Schultz of Port Townsend.
Roughriders fare well at NJROTC divisional competition
EVERETT — The Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps Port Angeles High School Roughriders recently participated in the second divisional NJROTC competition. Seven high schools were present during the competition at Everett High School on Jan. 27.
The Roughriders placed first in Armed Drill and Physical Training. Color Guard No. 1 finished second with Color Guard No. 2 third. The team finished fourth in Unarmed Drill.
In the Iron Women category, Roughriders Ellie Hiigel, Kathryn Guttormsen, and Erin Edwards placed first, second, and third, respectively.

MSU graduates
BOZEMAN — Two former North Olympic Peninsula students recently received degrees from Montana State University.
A total of 749 undergraduate degrees were awarded during the university’s 2017 fall commencement ceremonies Dec. 16 in Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.
Derek Crain of Sequim and Spencer Aston of Port Townsend were named as graduates.
Aston graduated with honors.
To qualify for graduation with honors, students must possess a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 to 3.69.
