SHINE — Motorists can expect up to four closures of the Hood Canal Bridge from 10 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20 to 2 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21.
The closures on the state Highway 104 span are for annual crew winter training.
Each closure could last up to 60 minutes as crews conduct emergency evacuation training on the bridge. Crews will regularly ease traffic between each closure, according to a press release.
The training prepares state Department of Transportation bridge maintenance crews for bridge activities related to winter storms. The training is conducted at night when traffic volumes are lighter.
Drivers are encouraged to sign up for email updates at tinyurl.com/PDN-email alertsdot and check the Hood Canal Bridge webpage at www.wsdot.com/traffic/hoodcanal for timely information.
Travelers can also get bridge information via text messages. The service will start with a text to 468311 with the words “wsdot hood.” To unsubscribe send a text message to the same number with the words “wsdot stop.”

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles Lodging Tax Advisory Committee will meet today at 10 a.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.
The committee is expected to review and award lodging tax event grant applications and provide a recommendation to City Council for the 2019 lodging tax budget, according to a press release.
Toy distribution
PORT ANGELES — The Christmas Angel program will be distributing donated toys from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
The program will be held at Fairview Bible Church, 385 O’Brien Road.
Toys will be distributed to parents who are not financially able to buy gifts for their children.
The outreach event is conducted by the Crossing Church and Fairview Bible Church in partnership with Marine Toys for Tots in Port Angeles.

Two area churches will hold Longest Night services at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21.
St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 510 E. Park Ave., Port Angeles will hold its 10th annual service.
Community Methodist Church, 130 Church Lane, Port Hadlock will also be holding a service.
Longest night services recognize that, for many, Christmas is a time of sadness and loneliness instead of one of fun and family gatherings.
