PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Fire District No. 2 commissioners meeting originally set for today has been rescheduled for Thursday due to lack of a quorum.
Commissioners will meet Thursday at the district’s administrative offices, 1212 E. First St., at 9 a.m., according to a press release.
On the agenda is the fire chief’s report and review of a Bainbridge Island interlocal agreement to purchase an ambulance.
Annual picnic
SEQUIM — The Sequim Chamber of Commerce’s annual luncheon picnic is set for Tuesday, Aug. 28, at Pioneer Memorial Park.
Reservations for the event need to be made by noon Friday, according to a press release.
They can be placed online at www.tinyurl.com/SCOC-reservations.
The picnic is set for 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Admission is $17 for chamber members and $20 for nonmembers at the park, 387 E. Washington St.
A buffet of BBQ pulled pork, brioche buns, potato salad, baked beans, corn on the cob, cookies and refreshments will be served.
The luncheon’s sponsor is Olympic Medical Center Foundation.
Auditions available
SEQUIM — Open auditions for Olympic Theatre Arts’ (OTA) production of “Sylvia” will be held Friday and Sunday.
They will be held at 6 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Sunday at OTA, 414 N. Sequim Ave.
Auditions are open to everyone, with no appointments necessary.
Auditioners who can’t make it are invited to call 360-683-7326 to make alternate arrangements for an audition.
“Sylvia,” by A.R. Gurney, is a modern romantic comedy about the relationship between a man, his wife and his dog, and how each tests the resolve of the other, according to a news release.
The characters are Greg, Kate’s husband and Sylvia’s “owner;” Kate, Greg’s wife, having issues with Greg and Sylvia’s relationship; Sylvia; and Tom/Leslie/Phyllis.
Greg is male and is meant for a person in their 40s to 60s.
Kate is female and is meant for a person in their 40s to 60s.
Sylvia is a female, meant for someone in their 20s to mid-30s.
The role is physically demanding and she has knee pads but will be on all fours at times, jumping on couches and running around, according to a news release.
Tom, Leslie and Phyllis are played by one actor of any age — preferably 35 to mid-60s — and gender.
Tom is a fellow dog-lover that Greg meets in the park; Phyllis is one of Kate’s high-society, alcoholic friends and; Leslie is their gender-ambiguous marriage counselor.
Performances of “Sylvia” run from Oct. 19 to Nov. 4, Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.
OTA also seeks people to fill its production team and urges those interested to inquire.

The North Olympic Library System (NOLS) will offer free eBooks of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” beginning Monday.

The book will be available for unlimited access until Sept. 10.
NOLS is providing the service as a celebration recognizing the 20th publication anniversary of the Harry Potter series’ first edition.
Appearing in the U.S. on Sept 1, 1998, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” launched a seven-book series followed by movie adaptations.
The series has sold more than 450 million copies, been translated into 80 languages and made into eight blockbuster films, according to the release.
The series can be accessed in multiple formats — as well as the movies — at all four NOLS branches.
