Live raptors

PORT TOWNSEND — Discovery Bay Wild Rescue will bring its educational ambassador birds of prey to the Cotton Building, 607 Water St., from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11.

The public is invited to experience the raptors up-close and learn about the focus of the center’s education programs and rehabilitation, according to a news release.

Many of the birds are recently arrived from a New Mexico rehabilitator’s operation. One is Gandalf, a “white” great horned owl whose light coloring stems from its genetic evolution in the White Sands area of New Mexico. Other birds on view will include red-tailed and Swainson’s hawks, and a variety of owls.

There will be an opportunity to vote for a favorite bird with donations and purchase raffle tickets ($1 each) for one of 15 baskets filled with locally donated prizes.

Discovery Bay Wild Bird Rescue is a donation-funded nonprofit that provides for the care and treatment of native wild birds that have been orphaned or injured and need to be rehabilitated for the purpose of release back to the wild.
