CHIMACUM — The Chimacum Grange will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. today.
The public is invited to the free event at 9572 Rhody Drive.
Due to a scheduling conflict the candidates for Jefferson County commissioner have been rescheduled to October.
This month’s presentation will feature district court candidates Noah Harrison and Mindy Walker.
The presentation will be preceded by a potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m.
Chain gang busy
PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) Chain Gang prepared for, set up and worked its booth at the Clallam County Fairgrounds during the week of Aug. 14-19.
From Aug. 20-24, the CCSO Chain Gang took down its booth at the fairgrounds.
Crew members found three illegal dumpsites on Fish Hatchery Road and two illegal dumpsites on Deer Park Road totaling 940 pounds of garbage from the five dumpsites.
Crew members also pulled or sprayed approximately 240 Scotch broom plants at the Place Road pit.
Crew members also brushed and chipped 0.6 miles county right-of-way on Camp Hayden and Wye roads.
From Aug. 27 to 31, CCSO Chain Gang members took a trip to Olympic Medical Center for a chain gang worker.
Notable items found along roadways were four needles, three shopping carts, 42 tires, three bicycles, 10 bicycle tires, a tent, differential to a car or truck, 55-gallon plastic barrel, washing machine drum, car door, galvanized 5-gallon pail, pieces of metal and clothes.
Crew members found illegal dumpsites on Tumwater Truck Route, as well as Elwha River and Little River roads totaling 4,020 pounds of garbage from the dumpsites.
Crew members also cleaned 3 miles of state Highway 112 and 300 pounds of litter.
Crew members also pulled or sprayed approximately 330 Scotch broom plants at the Joyce-Piedmont pit.
The chain gang has so far this year cleaned 99.75 miles of roadway, picked up 52,820 pounds of dumpsite litter, picked up 5,630 pounds of roadside litter, recycled 272 pounds of aluminum, removed or sprayed 33,720 Scotch broom plants, trimmed 19,104 feet of guardrail and brushed 9.85 miles of county rights-of-way. For the forest service, the chain gang has so far this year cleaned two miles of forest roads or trails, removed 12,610 pounds of dumpsite litter and removed 15 hazard trees.
Learn by moonlight
SEQUIM — The Learn by the Light of the Moon Series continues with “Farming in Partnership with Nature” at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24.
This free event will be presented by Patty McManus from Nash Organic Produce in Dungeness River Audubon Center Amphitheater, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road.
There is seating available in the amphitheater but attendees are welcome to bring chairs or blankets.
Donation to Humane Society
PORT ANGELES — Jim’s Pharmacy presented a check for $749.55 to the Clallam County Humane Society, their “Shop with Loyalty, Shop Locally” charity of the month for July.
Proceeds were collected from donated casual days from employees, used book sales, a “cats vs. dogs” contest, as well as a percentage from the sales from Jim’s.
September’s charity of the month is St. Andrew’s Place.
