SEQUIM — The Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society will meet at the Dungeness River Audubon Center at Railroad Bridge Park, 2151 W. Hendrickson Road, at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Christina Heliker, retired U.S. Geological Survey volcanologist, will present “Native Birds and Active Volcanoes: Birding on the Big Island of Hawaii.”
In her 28 years as a geologist documenting Kilauea’s eruptions, Heliker had a front-row seat watching the birds of native Hawaiian forests, according to a news release.
The program is free and open to the public.

Dinner donations
PORT ANGELES — Community members raised more than $7,000 for the Port Angeles Senior & Community Center at the ninth annual Harvest Benefit Dinner in September.
In addition to dinner, the event featured live entertainment, a silent auction and raffle prizes.
In recent years, funds have helped pay for items at the senior center such as volunteer training, equipment upgrades and refurbishing the center’s lounge and cafe, as well as helping the senior center meet various financial requirements each year.
The event was hosted by Park View Villas, Jim’s Pharmacy, Crestwood Health and Rehabilitation, Dungeness Courte Memory Care, KWA and the Northwest Veterans Resource Center.
