NEWS BRIEFS: Arts to Elders show slated … and other items

PORT TOWNSEND — Arts to Elders will present Pami-Sue and the Raindance Kid with special guest star Clarence the Bear today from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Discovery View Retirement, 1051 Hancock St.

Pami-Sue and the Raindance Kid are a musical theater duo.

Pami-Sue Alvarado sings and plays tambourine and tenor ukulele.

The Raindance Kid is an entertainer named Raven who sings, plays lap steel and ukulele.

The group showcases western, Hawaiian, pop and original songs.

Clarence, originally from Barely, Alaska, made his theatrical debut at Port Townsend’s Key City Playhouse in All My Relations faux radio production of a “Prairie Dog Companion.”

The free performance, held in conjunction with the Northwind Arts Center and sponsored by the Port Townsend Arts Commission, is open to the public.

Jefferson GOP

PORT HADLOCK — The Jefferson County Republican Party recently met for reorganization.

New officers for the 2017-18 term include Chairman Jon Cooke of Quilcene, Vice Chair/Secretary Lynn Hisey of Port Townsend, Treasurer Gene Farr of Port Townsend, state Committeeman Dan Youra of Port Hadlock, state Committeewoman Bonnie Broders of Discovery Bay and Steve Crosby, the outgoing chairman, who will serve as chair of the communications committee.

The next regular meeting will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Jefferson County Library, 620 Cedar Ave., Port Hadlock.

Writing workshop

PORT ANGELES — Writer-in-Residence Alice Derry and Professor Kate Reavey will team up to help new writers at a writer’s workshop from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, and Thursday, April 27.

The workshop will take place on the Peninsula College Port Angeles campus, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Those interested are asked to submit a typed manuscript of poems, seven to 10 pages, by Feb. 1 to Matt Teorey, Peninsula College, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles, WA 98362, or mteorey@pencol.edu.

Manuscripts can be mailed, emailed or submitted in person.

Both workshops are limited to 10 participants.

Participants will be announced March 1.

Participation in the workshops is free and open to the public.

First Federal hires manager

PORT ANGELES — First Federal recently hired Geoffrey Greseth as vice president, commercial relationship manager.

Greseth’s most recently held the position of relationship manager with U.S Bank in Seattle and Tacoma, where he managed a portfolio of small business customers comprising both real estate investors and local small businesses.

He has been active in his communities through the Port Orchard Chamber, The Salvation Army, Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and Red Cross, according to a news release.
