NEWS BRIEFS: Artist to provide demonstration at Sequim meeting Thursday … and other items

SEQUIM — Artist Kevin Willson will provide a program and demonstration at a meeting of the Olympic Peninsula Art Association on Thursday.

Doors will open at 9:30 a.m. in the parish hall at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 N. Fifth Ave., for a meet-and-greet, followed by a short business meeting, after which Willson will speak.

Visitors are welcome. Demonstrations are free.

Willson started his professional art career with metal sculpture in 1973 while becoming a co-founder of The Art Works Inc. in Langley on Whidbey Island.

Now a Port Angeles resident, he has been selling from his studio and showing art privately for the past 28 years.

Dog park meeting

PORT ANGELES — The quarterly meeting for Port Angeles’ dog park will be Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Coffey Room of the Port Angeles Library, 2210 S. Peabody St.

The meeting will focus on questions about the park and group as well as topics for discussion.

The meeting is free and open to the public.

Benefit dinner, auction

PORT ANGELES — The Olympic Peninsula Humane Society’s fifth annual dinner and auction, Meowgaritas and Mutts, will take place Saturday.

The event will begin with cocktails and a silent auction at 5 p.m., followed by a dinner and a live auction at 6:30 p.m. in the Vern Burton Community Center, located at 308 E. Fourth St.

The dinner will be provided by Little Devil’s Lunchbox.

The featured item of the live auction is a painting by George Rodrigue titled “Three Amigos.”

According to a news release, “This print cannot be purchased at any gallery and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and a special gallery stamp.”

Tickets are $50 per person, $400 for a table of eight, and can be purchased by phoning the humane society at 360-457-8206.

Proceeds will benefit the animals cared for by the society.

Luncheon storyteller

SEQUIM — The Newcomers’ Club’s monthly luncheon will feature a storyteller at noon Friday.

Elaine Grinnell, a Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe storyteller, will present at the meeting held in the Legends Room at Cedars at Dungeness, located at 1965 Woodcock Road.

The cost is $5 for the program and $20 for the lunch and program.

Socializing will begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch and the presentation.

The menu will feature a fajita buffet with a choice of beef or chicken, cooked peppers, onions and seasonings.

It will also include black beans, Spanish rice, salsa, sour cream, flour tortillas, green salad, assorted dressings and a dessert of brownies.

Refreshments include regular and decaf coffee, iced tea and a variety of teas as well as soft drinks.

Tea with SHE

SEQUIM — Soroptimist International of Sequim will present the second event in its Tea with SHE series.

Teresa Neudorfer, elder law attorney, will talk about how to “Get Your Affairs in Order” on Tuesday, May 16, from noon to 1 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave.

Neudorfer will address issues that need to be considered as people age and the paperwork to make that happen, according to a news release.

This is a free event, and no reservations are required.
