NEWS BRIEFS: Flight operations set for this week … and other items

COUPEVILLE — Field carrier landing practice operations for aircraft stationed at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island are scheduled to occur at the outlying field in Coupeville afternoon to midafternoon and night to late night Monday and Wednesday.

Training also has been scheduled night to late night Tuesday.

Aircraft carrier-based flight training also will occur at Ault Field afternoon to midafternoon Tuesday.

Operations will continue late morning to midafternoon Wednesday.

The schedule is subject to change to meet mission requirements.

New director

GARDINER — Security Services Northwest (SSNW) recently hired Patrick Sullivan as its new director of communications.

Sullivan joins SSNW after a 35-year career as a professional journalist and the past 28 years as an editor, photographer and website director of the Port Townsend & Jefferson County Leader newspaper.

Sullivan is originally from Montana and currently resides in Port Townsend.

He will oversee internal company communications with the company’s website and social media presence and for projects including “Shepherd Shield,” a mobile app offering personalized security and threat assessments.

“It’s an exciting time to join a locally owned company with a global outlook,” Sullivan said.

Tuesday: Clallam County Fire District No. 2 Chief Sam Phillips and Deputy Fire Chief Jake Patterson discuss “Spring Clean Up for Safety — Why It Matters.”

Second segment: Olympic Medical Center CEO Eric Lewis gives an update on the grand opening of the new Medical Office Building.

Wednesday: Jesse Major, an adviser for the DeMolay youth program and a Peninsula Daily News reporter, and Skip Hutchison discuss the youth program.

Second segment: Betsy Reed-Schultz gives an update on The Captain Joseph House, including upcoming fundraising events.

Thursday: Joe DeScala, pastor and director of the Mended Church, discussing his upcoming trek across Washington state to raise funds for his church’s Orphans and Widows Fund.

Second segment: Clallam County Public Utility District.

Scholarships available

PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula College Foundation is currently offering scholarships to students attending the 2017-18 school year.

To view the criteria and apply for one, visit www.theWashBoard.org, create a login and personal profile, then enter “Peninsula College” in the search toolbar to view offered scholarships.

Each scholarship has a different due date, so applicants are advised to check each scholarship’s deadline.

Students are encouraged to start the process early, as many scholarships require recommendation letters, personal essays and unofficial transcripts to complete applications.

Applications that are incomplete or submitted after the scholarship deadline will not be accepted.

Scholarship award notifications will be provided to students beginning Friday, May 19.
