PORT TOWNSEND — Acoustic ecologist Gordon Hempton will present “Earth Is a Solar-Powered Jukebox” with the Jefferson Land Trust Natural History Society on Thursday.
From 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Quimper Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Hall, 2233 San Juan Ave., Hempton brings a nature-produced sound tour from around the world.
The cost is free, with a suggested donation of $5.
Gordon also will speak about his book, One Square Inch of Silence: One Man’s Quest to Preserve Quiet, and a related project based in Olympic National Park.

Nash’s in Sequim to show films Wednesday
SEQUIM — Nash’s Farm Store, 4681 Sequim-Dungeness Way, will show a double-feature screening at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
“Ground Operations” and “Dive!” will be shown in the community barn behind the store.
“Ground Operations” takes a look at veterans of the Iraq and Afghan wars who are attempting to transition into new careers in sustainable farm and ranching.
“Dive!,” starting at
8 p.m., follows a group of journalists as they dumpster-dive in the back alleys and gated garbage receptacles of Los Angeles’ supermarkets.
In the process, they discover the ugly truth about how much good, edible food is sent to the landfills in America.
The screenings are free and open to the public.
Watercolor classes come to Sequim starting Wednesday
SEQUIM — A four-week watercolor painting class will take place at the LARC Gallery, 425 E. Washington St., from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The classes are this Wednesday and Wednesdays, March 12, 19 and 26.
The cost is $50.
One makeup class per month is offered any Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon.

Womanfest on tap Wednesday at Port Angeles winery
PORT ANGELES — Womanfest and Olympic Cellars Winery will jointly host the 10th annual International Women’s Day celebration at Olympic Cellars Winery, 255410 U.S. Highway 101, at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
International Women’s Day, which is Saturday, is a global celebration of the economic, political and social achievements of women, past, present and future.
The suggested donation for dinner is $10. Proceeds from dinner will be donated to one local and one international charity.
A dinner of homemade soups, bread and cookies will be provided. No-host wine also will be available.
