NEWS BRIEF: Kitsap man dies on Larry Scott Trail; Brinnon Parks meeting scheduled

PORT TOWNSEND — A Kitsap County man died of natural causes while riding with friends on the Larry Scott Trail on Monday.

The 72-year-old man was with three people he was friends with since kindergarten, according to Julie St. Marie, who was acting Jefferson County coroner Tuesday.

The man’s name and hometown were not released.

East Jefferson Fire-Rescue Public Information Officer Bill Beezley said the men were riding their bicycles on the trail about 1/4 mile east of South Discovery Road.

The group pulled ahead then noticed the fourth was no longer behind them. They turned back to find him on the ground tangled up in his bike adjacent to the trail. They called 9-1-1 and began CPR.

EJFR units, assisted by firefighters from Engine 91 of Naval Magazine Indian Island, stopped CPR after an hour after consulting with a medical doctor.
