PORT ANGELES – The project to steer an inflatable field house into town is without a rudder.
So far, no one is taking responsibility for applying for money from the city’s lodging tax advisory board to help pay for the expenses – shipping and site preparation – of the free building, which has been given to the city of Port Angeles.
Richard Bonine, Port Angeles deputy recreation director, told the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission Dec. 20 that the next steps would be up to the Clallam County Family YMCA.
That was news to the YMCA.
“We’ve never said we were taking the lead on this project,” said YMCA Executive Director Dan Maguire.
“We sponsored the application because there was a time crunch,” he said.
Maguire said various potential user groups – such as players of baseball, lacrosse, soccer and tennis – have discussed forming a community group to decide how to proceed with the project.
“After the new year, those groups will try to get a meeting together,” Maquire said.
Peninsula Tennis Club member James Schouten, who has championed the project, is on vacation until later this week and was not available for comment.
