New veterans assistant may be named today

PORT ANGELES — Clallam County veterans officials interviewed 10 applicants for the post of veterans assistant Monday and could announce an appointment as early as today.

At least for now, the job they fill will occupy 16 hours a week and be based in the county commissioners’ office in the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St.

After the new appointee receives county orientation May 19 and spends about a month learning the position, he or she will move to the Clallam County Veterans Center, 261 S. Francis St.

Seventeen people applied for the post, but the 10 who were interviewed were those who met the job’s preference for a veteran.

Interviewing them Monday were Marjorie Upham, county personnel director; Mike McEvoy, veterans employment specialist for WorkSource; Bill Minor, commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1024 and head of the county Veterans Association; and Tammy Davidson, county veterans coordinator.
