PORT ANGELES — The North Olympic Peninsula’s newest education complex is getting even newer technology space.
The North Olympic Peninsula Skills Center’s industry technology building is due to open in about two months.
Being built adjacent to the current Lincoln Center at the corner of Eighth and B streets, the new structure will feature technology machining and technology composites laboratories which will be ready in the fall, said Jim Jones, Port Angeles School District executive director for business and operations.
“Basically, it’s going to look very complimentary to the big skills center,” said Jones.
“It will have the same scheme, same kind of roofing, but it will have only one story.”
$2 million cost
At a cost of $2 million to design and build, the industry technology building is funded by the state in an appropriation approved last spring.
Besides offering two spacious labs, the 8,198-square-foot structure will also have one classroom fitted with computers and other resources for use by students from both courses.
“This should be real positive thing for businesses, no question about it, ” Jones said of the new addition.
