PORT ANGELES — Local residents get the chance tonight to critique new designs for the proposed downtown conference center and hotel.
The designs will be shown by architect and developer Randal Jay Ehm beginning at 7 p.m. in the meeting room at the Clallam Transit headquarters, 830 W. Lauridsen Blvd.
This is the first of two workshops this week on major downtown development projects.
The final public design workshops for the $4.5 million Gateway Transportation Center project are scheduled from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday in the Port Angeles City Council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.
The city-state-federal Gateway project, scheduled to be a reality in 2003, is intended to be an attractive entrance to the downtown in addition to being a staging area for up to six Clallam Transit buses.
Plans presented so far show a pedestrian mall, welcoming center for visitors and large, decorative sails.
At both meetings the designers will present models and architectural drawings, answer questions and solicit feedback from the audience.
