PORT ANGELES — Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue has hired two new career firefighters.
Firefighter/paramedic Gary Arbuckle and firefighter/EMT Kate Haworth have joined the district as full-time employees.
The pair now begin a 12-month probationary period where they familiarize themselves with their new roles.
Arbuckle is a certified structural firefighter II, Washington state paramedic with current Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certifications and a wildland firefighter type 2.
He has been serving with the district as a firefighter/paramedic on a part-time basis.
Haworth, a 2015 graduate of Port Angeles High School, is certified as a structural firefighter I, Washington state EMT-B, wildland firefighter type 2 and a rope rescue technician.
She has been serving as a volunteer firefighter/EMT with the district.
Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue provides fire suppression and Advanced Life Support emergency medical service to 9,500 people over 85 square miles outside the city of Port Angeles, serving the communities of Deer Park, Gales Addition, Mount Pleasant, Black Diamond, Dry Creek, Lake Sutherland and the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe.
Forty-five volunteers and nine full-time Firefighter/Paramedics/EMTs respond to an average of 1,900 emergency calls per year.
