New captains promoted at Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue

PORT ANGELES — Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue promoted Tyler Gear, Ian Brueckner and Tyler Reid to captain at a July 1 ceremony.

The new captains will each supervise one of the district’s 24-hour shifts as well as assume overall responsibility for either vehicles, equipment or facilities.

The captains were selected after a testing and evaluation process rated by representatives from surrounding departments to include Clallam County Fire District #3, Clallam County Fire District #4, East Jefferson Fire Rescue, Port Angeles Fire Department, Olympic Ambulance and Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe Emergency Management.

Gear, who was a Fire Explorer from 2008 until becoming a volunteer firefighter/EMT in 2016, is certified as a firefighter 1, wildland firefighter 2 and rope rescue technician.

Brueckner has been a firefighter/paramedic with the district since 2015.

He is certified as a firefighter 2, wildland engine boss, instructor 1 and rope rescue technician.

Reid, who began as a volunteer with Clallam 2 in 2012, has been a full-time firefighter/paramedic with the district since 2016.

He is certified as a firefighter 2, wildland firefighter 1 and instructor 1.

The district, which has eight full-time firefighters and 45 volunteers, covers 85 square miles outside of Port Angeles including Deer Park, Gales Addition, Mount Pleasant Community, Black Diamond, Dry Creek and Lake Sutherland as well as the part of Olympic National Park between Deer Park and Sol Duc roads.

It responds to an average of 1,800 emergency calls per year.
