REALTOR BROOKE NELSON will stay in the race for Port Angeles City Council, her campaign spokesman said Friday.
Nelson’s campaign was placed on hold after her 6-year-old son, Theodin Nelson, and her mother, Mary Wyman, died in a car wreck Oct. 18.
“The campaign is moving forward,” campaign spokesman Dylan Honnold said.
Nelson, 37, is challenging incumbent Betsy Wharton, a 49-year-old registered nurse who also serves as deputy mayor, in the Nov. 3 general election.
While campaign volunteers will continue their work to gain support for Nelson, Honnold said he doesn’t believe Nelson will make any further campaign appearances.
“We’ll just kind of continue to field questions,” Honnold said, “so she can do what she needs to do for herself and her family.”
An Oct. 28 debate between Nelson and Wharton on KONP radio has been canceled, Honnold said.
Balloting in the all-mail election began after ballots were mailed to registered voters Oct. 14 and continues until 8 p.m. on Nov. 3.
