PORT ANGELES — A total of 1,678 runners are registered for runs during the North Olympic Discovery Marathon events this weekend.
Of those 1,070 are women and 608 are men.
“Running has a very strong tradition of being a female sport,” race organizer Larry Little said.
“We are very proud that every year our logo has featured a woman.”
New to the North Olympic Discovery Marathon are the Olympic Medical Center 5K and 10K run.
The 10K will start and end at City Pier and the 5K will begin at the Rayonier Mill site and end at City Pier.
Both will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday.
A Kids Marathon is set to begin at 4 p.m. Saturday at Port Angeles City Pier.
Even if you aren’t running, there will be plenty to do.
The marathon on Sunday will draw droves of participants from all over the world — from local North Olympic Peninsula residents to North Carolina and even Switzerland.
The Port Angeles Marathon Association — who facilitates the marathon — wanted to make sure that the race experience was great for runners and the friends and family they would bring along, Little said.
