Power restored to most after nearly 11,000 out in Clallam County

Some outages continue

CARLSBORG — Nearly 11,000 electrical customers between Carlsborg and Port Angeles lost power Wednesday afternoon, with the earliest outages reported at about 3 p.m., but by 5 p.m., most were back in service.

Outages affected 33 percent of the Clallam County Public Utility District’s customers at 4 p.m. Wednesday, with 10,788 reported without power.

By 4:45 p.m., crews had cleared a limb from a transmission line and energized it, Nicole Hartman, PUD spokesperson, reported on the website at clallampud.net, leaving 54 customers without power.

“The majority of customers should have power restored,” she said.

“There may be smaller outages still occurring, so if you are without power, please check your breakers, and if it does not come on, please call us at 360-452-9771 to report the outage at your location. You can also report using the SmartHub app.”

She asked that customers not report via social media “as this does not integrate with our outage system.”

By 5:20 p.m., outages had increased again, with 1,024 reported south of U.S. Highway 101 near the Agnew area.

PUD crews had patrolled the transmission line between the Bonneville Power Administration substations in Happy Valley and Port Angeles in an attempt to isolate the problem, Hartman said earlier.

At the same time, crews were responding to several locations with limbs in a line or downed lines, she said.

Crews were out in such areas as Siebert Creek, Taylor Cutoff Road and Holgerson Road.
