NEAH BAY — A Neah Bay man has been missing since Tuesday, when he borrowed a family member’s car to go to Port Angeles, and the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information from the public about his whereabouts.
Mathew Warren Dean, 38, is about 5-feet, 10-inches tall and weighs about 155 pounds, according to the press release issued Thursday.
He is Native American with brown hair and eyes. He was last known to be wearing black sneakers and black or gray sweat pants, his family said when they reported him missing Wednesday.
State Patrol troopers found the car he was driving Wednesday morning after a report that it was in a ditch off the westbound lane of state Highway 112 a short distance west of milepost 26, about 10 miles southeast of Clallam Bay, the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office said in the press release.
The car is a white 2007 Toyota Camry bearing Washington license BKP7728.
“The vehicle appeared to have driven off of the roadway and into a shallow ditch during the heavy snowfall” Tuesday night and into the morning of Wednesday, according to the release.
The person who reported the car saw foot tracks along the highway leading west away from the vehicle and back toward Neah Bay, deputies said.
Sgt. Ed Anderson said the snow depth close to where the car was found was about 18 inches.
The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office has entered Dean’s name into the Washington Crime Information Center/National Crime Information Center (WACIC)\NCIC) data base as a missing person.
Deputies are now canvasing homes in the area where the vehicle was located and contacting citizens in the Clallam Bay-Sekiu community in an attempt to determine if anyone has seen Dean and if he is safe, the press release said.
Anyone having information that may help in locating Dean is asked to call Pencom at 360-417-2459.
