PORT ANGELES — Christian Williams, aviation maintenance technician first class petty officer, has been recognized as Coast Guard Air Station/Sector Field Office Port Angeles’ first-quarter 2014 Enlisted Person of the Quarter by the Navy League of the United States Bremerton/Olympic Peninsula Council during a recent Command All Hands gathering.
At the ceremony, Navy League member Ken Sweeney presented Williams with a soaring-eagle statuette engraved with his name following an introduction by the station’s commanding officer, Capt. Keith McTigue, and command master chief, Lawrence “LP” Moroles.
McTigue and Moroles also detailed Williams’ achievements that led to his selection as a key unit leader in 2014.
Williams is assigned as the night shift supervisor, “a role entrusted only to the command’s top-performing first class petty officers,” the citation noted.
He overcame “chronic personnel shortages, dilution of experience and numerous maintenance challenges to lead his team of five mechanics through several MH-65D helicopter heavy-maintenance evolutions that included two engine replacements, two 600-hour inspections and numerous technical compliance inspections.”
Williams’ “sound judgment and insightful decision-making inspired collaborative efforts under these demanding conditions, the citation added.
“His leadership resulted in improved aircraft reliability/readiness that continually surpassed commandant’s aircraft availability targets.”
As an enlisted aircrew flight examiner, Williams is one of the command’s “most experienced flight mechanic instructors, with more than 1,260 flight hours, and is directly responsible for ensuring the readiness and standardization of 30 aircrew members.”
Williams also represents the Coast Guard as a Habitat for Humanity volunteer and is a member of the Clallam County Habitat for Humanity board of directors.
