CARLSBORG — Tire repair stores didn’t report increased business but drivers in the Carlsborg area were inconvenienced Wednesday and Thursday after numerous nails were dumped on U.S. Highway 101 at its intersection with Carlsborg Road and Hooker Road.
The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office posted information online Wednesday afternoon warning about the hazard after a driver called to report his car’s tires had been punctured and nails were in at least three of the lanes. Reports continued to come in on Thursday.
Mark Vickerman, manager at Discount Tire in Sequim, said, “I heard about it, but we had only maybe two customers, although they weren’t sure where they picked them up.
“It was not like Morse Creek a couple of years ago. That was insane.”
During one week in October 2019, an estimated 300 drivers showed up at tire repair stores in Port Angeles and Sequim after running over numerous screws on U.S. Highway 101 at Morse Creek east of Port Angeles.
