PORT ANGELES — School supplies will be distributed at a back-to-school event at Jefferson Elementary, 218 E. 12th St., at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Agencies and businesses including Serenity House, First Federal, Port Angeles Food Bank, Port Angeles School District and Lutheran Community Services NW have joined to host the event, which helps low-income children prepare for school.
Everything is free for families: school supplies, haircuts, immunizations and information.

Bunco for scholars
PORT ANGELES — The Order of The Eastern Star will hold a bunco game fundraiser at the Masonic Temple, 622 S. Lincoln St., at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Forest, farm workshops
PORT ANGELES — The Clallam Conservation District plans two free workshops, one for small forest landowners and another on farm management, next Sunday.
Reservations are necessary, said Meghan Adamire, conservation district spokeswoman.
The workshops will be in the Monroe Road area, and specific directions will be provided upon registration, she added.
The workshop for small forest owners will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The farm management workshop will be from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
In the first workshop, Greg Lange, owner of Draftworks, a horse logging business, and Conor Haggerty, an arborist, will lead participants on a hike through a forest and discuss tips for evaluating tree health and danger trees, as well as selective pruning for view enhancement and restorative timber stand management using the “worst first” thinning approach.
The workshop will end with a demonstration of low-impact logging using draft horses.
In the second workshop, participants will tour Lange’s farm to learn about how he built a mud-free heavy use area for his two draft horses, as well as hearing about other techniques he uses to minimize the impact of his heavy horses on his land.
Workshop participants also will be given free technical guides to help them construct their own mud-free heavy use areas, as well as guides to assist with manure storage and pasture management.

Last summer shows
PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend Summer Band wraps its season with concerts this weekend.
The community band will perform at Fort Flagler State Park at 3 p.m. Saturday and at Chetzemoka Park at 3 p.m. Sunday.

The Chetzemoka show is free.
The band will perform selections from “Mikado,” “Sleeping Beauty” and “Hello, Dolly!” and a tribute to Benny Goodman, the “King of Swing.”
The guest conductor will be Lylburn Layer, who is the music director and conductor of the North Cascades Concert Band.
He also is the principal clarinetist in the Port Angeles Symphony and Chamber Orchestra.
Fort trail run
PORT TOWNSEND — The 11th annual Fort Townsend four-mile Trail Run-Walk will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Registration is $15 for adults and $10 for youth 16 and under.
Registration will be from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. in the barn near the lower field.
Volunteers from the Port Townsend Running Club organize the event with all proceeds benefiting Friends of Fort Townsend and Jefferson Trails Coalition.
The four-mile course takes runners and walkers on the scenic trails through the park and ends at the lower field for homemade cookies, awards and a raffle.

Benefit for family
PORT TOWNSEND — A benefit for Port Townsend man injured in a dirt bike wreck is planned Sunday.
Tom Parcher, a 40-year-old general contractor, was hurt Aug. 15 at an off-road park in Port Angeles. Recovery could take as long as six months.
The Parcher Potluck and Play Day benefit for the family will be at 1 p.m. in the lower level of the Port Townsend Recreation Center, 620 Tyler St.
Participants are asked to bring a potluck dish and a donation.
Ruddell donates
PORT TOWNSEND — Ruddell Auto Mall of Port Angeles is holding a community sales event to benefit United Good Neighbors of Jefferson County.
The event, which began Wednesday, will last through Sunday at the former Courtesy Ford dealership at the intersection of State Highway 19 and State Highway 20.
Ruddell will donate $50 to United Good Neighbors of Jefferson County for each car sold.
They are also holding a raffle for a 40-inch high-definition flat-screen television.
All proceeds from the raffle also will be donated to United Good Neighbors.
The raffle drawing will take place at 6 p.m. Sunday and Ruddell will present a check to a United Good Neighbors representative.
