DIAMOND POINT — A week and a half of wrestling with stucco has produced a shimmering scene of surf and sun, just in time for a summer solstice observance at the Eagle’s Ledge.
That’s the affectionate name for Keith and Adine Kretschmer’s home on the edge of Diamond Point.
The place, which has a sweeping view of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, just grew more impressive thanks to the bald eagle and rolling Pacific waves painted by two of the Kretschmers’ neighbors.
These neighbors, Rusk Sahnow and Brenda Newman, are artists who wanted to celebrate their waterfront community. So in early June, they bought some acrylic colors at Rodda Paint in Sequim and set to work.
Last Tuesday, they finished a 30-by-15-foot mural that serves as a kind of close-up reflection of the view out the Kretschmers’ front window.
The sea-blues and ochers are still drying — and will keep doing so for another week — but the mural is to be unveiled, or more precisely, untarped, on Saturday night, at the start of the Kretschmers’ summer solstice celebration for their Diamond Point neighbors.
