HOODSPORT — A new mudslide came crashing down on Highway 101 in Mason County as a series of wet, mild weather systems continues to saturate Western Washington with copious rainfall.
The latest mudslide, near Hoodsport, came down at 11:35 a.m. today (Friday), blocking both directions of Highway 101 near the intersection with Highway 119.
The highway is the only road linking communities on the western shore of Hood Canal.
Crews were later able to clear one lane through the 100-yard-wide slide area.
One-way, alternating traffic is now making it through using the northbound lane.
The slide was the latest in a series that have plagued Western Washington since the series of storms began.
A mudslide Thursday along the main railroad line near Everett has prompted a suspension of passenger rail service between Seattle and Vancouver, B.C., until Saturday.
