Motorcyclists to roar into Forks this weekend

FORKS — The West End is geared up for the inaugural Rainforest Run, which organizers hope will attract thousands of motorcyclists this weekend.

The festival is organized around two primary events — a poker run through Clallam Bay, Sekiu, Neah Bay and Forks, as well as a motorcycle run to the Hoh Rain Forest.

But organizers Bob Wishon, Jeff Wishon and Dan Roth — all of Forks — say the weekend — unlike other motorcycle rallies — will offer a variety of entertainment, with something for every member of the family.

“We wanted to have something for the kids and the whole family to do the whole time,” Bob Wishon said.

Throughout today, Saturday and Sunday a carnival-like atmosphere will invade Tillicum Park.

“During the day, we’ll have stuff for the wives — those who aren’t into doing the runs — and for the kids, and in the evenings, we’ll have stuff going for the teens,” he said.

An outdoor movie about surfers searching for the perfect wave — “Endless Summer” — will be at Tillicum Park at dusk on Saturday.

The movie, sponsored by West End Surf Shop, will be projected onto the walls of one of the buildings near the skate park.

All kinds of motorcycles are invited — from choppers to scooters.

Bob Wishon predicts several thousand motorcyclists will show up.

“It really depends on the weather,” he said.

“A lot of people are waiting until the last minute to see what the weather will do.

“If it is really bad rainy and muddy weather, then we might see as little as 3,000 people, but if it is beautiful and sunny out, then we could see up to 9,000 or so.”

He plans to make the run an annual event, and hopes it will be a boost to the local economy.

“We really wanted something that would benefit the local economy and help out as many groups as we could,” Bob Wishon said.
