CARLSBORG — An elderly motorcyclist was in critical condition in the intensive care unit at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on Sunday afternoon after a collision with a car on U.S. Highway 101 in Carlsborg.
Joseph L. Cvitkovich, 79, of Sequim rode his motorcycle into a Highway 101 intersection against a red light, according to a State Patrol report.
Cvitkovich was riding a brown and tan 2002 Yamaha XVX11A motorcycle northbound on Hooker Road, the State Patrol said.
Joy A. Newman, 37, of Sequim was driving a green 1997 Geo Tracker eastbound on Highway 101.
Cvitkovich failed to stop the bike at the red light at the corner of Hooker Road and Highway 101 and was struck in the intersection, troopers said.
Cvitkovich was transported to Harborview, but Newman declined treatment, the patrol reported.
Cvitkovich was wearing a helmet, and Newman was wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck, the State Patrol reported.
Neither drugs nor alcohol was thought to be factors in the wreck, troopers said.
