FORKS — A motorcyclist from South Dakota was seriously injured when her motorcycle struck a deer Saturday night on U.S. Highway 101 in the Sol Duc Valley just east of Bear Creek.
The collision happened just a few miles away from where a Port Angeles man was killed when his motorcycle struck a deer on Highway 101 in June.
Jeanne M. Washington, 57, of Sioux Falls, S.D., was driving her motorcycle west on Highway 101 at about 9:30 p.m. when a deer entered the roadway and her motorcycle hit it near milepost 208, according to the State Patrol.
Washington, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle, according to the report. She was taken to Forks Community Hospital and then airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where she was listed Monday in satisfactory condition, a hospital spokesperson said.
The motorcycle was destroyed, according to the State Patrol report.
No drugs or alcohol were involved, according to the report.
On June 21, Timothy Peterson, 62, of Port Angeles was killed 6 miles away on Highway 101 when his motorcycle hit a deer.
