PORT TOWNSEND — Speeding and low tire pressure are the suspected causes of a motorcycle wreck that injured a Port Townsend man late Saturday.
The accident happened at 7:43 p.m. on state Highway 20, nine miles southwest of Port Townsend, according to a State Patrol report by Trooper Keith Nestor.
The motorcycle’s driver, Craig J. Dotson, 41, of Port Townsend, was transported to the Olympic Medical Center’s emergency room following the crash.
He was discharged early Sunday morning in good condition, said a hospital nursing supervisor.
Dotson was riding a black 2010 Kawasaki KLX250 motorcycle westbound on state Highway 20, and the vehicle’s tire pressure was low, Nestor said in the report.
Dotson was unable to maintain balance and steering while going around a curve, laid down the motorcycle and slid into the guardrail, he said.
According to the report, Dotson was wearing a non-U.S. Department of Transportation-compliant helmet at the time of the wreck.
There were no other vehicles involved in the crash.
The motorcycle had non-reportable damage and was pushed from the scene.
The cause of the accident was listed as “defective equipment — low tire pressure” and speed too fast for conditions.
Unspecified charges were pending.
