Candidates vying for Clallam County, regional and statewide elective public office continued to file Tuesday for positions for the Aug. 7 statewide primary and Nov. 6 general election.
New filers included Republican Maggie Roth of Port Angeles, who filed early Tuesday afternoon for the Port Angeles-area District 2 county commissioner seat held by three-term incumbent Mike Chapman, an independent and former Republican who has said he intends to run for re-election.
Democrat Dale Holiday of Port Angeles filed for Chapman’s position late Monday morning, but her name did not appear on the county website list of candidates until late Monday night or early Tuesday morning, county Auditor Patty Rosand said.
The Washington Information Election System, which links to the Clallam County government website, www.clallam.net, was having difficulty updating new filings, Rosand said early Tuesday afternoon.
Tuesday was the second day of a weeklong filing period that lasts from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily through Friday at the county Elections Center in the county courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St. in Port Angeles.
Open seats in Clallam County also include all three Superior Court judge positions, West End District 3 Public Utility District commissioner and 67 precinct committee officers.
The state’s top-two primary is Aug. 7. Ballots will be mailed to voters July 18, nine weeks from today.
The general election is Nov. 6. Ballots will go out to voters Oct. 17.
Judge seats
Newly announced filers listed on the county elections website for the Position 1 seat held by retiring county Superior Court Judge Ken Williams included lawyer Curtis Johnson of Port Angeles and Forks District Court 2 Judge Erik Rohrer of Port Angeles.
Four-year seats held by Judges George L. Wood for Position 2 and S. Brooke Taylor for Position 3 also are up for re-election.
Both Taylor and Wood have filed for re-election.
District 24
Democratic 24th District state Rep. Steve Tharinger of Sequim also filed for re-election to a second term Tuesday morning.
Rep. Kevin Van De Wege, D-Sequim, and Sen. Jim Hargrove, D-Hoquiam, filed Monday.
Also posted on the Washington Information Election System website as of 2:30 p.m. Tuesday were filings by:
■ Democrat Jay Inslee of Seattle for the governorship held by Chris Gregoire, who is not seeking re-election.
■ Democrat Bob Ferguson of Seattle for the state attorney general position held by Rob McKenna, who has said he intends to run for governor.
■ Republican Art Coday of Shoreline for the six-year U.S. Senate seat held by incumbent Democrat Maria Cantwell of Mountlake Terrace, who has filed for re-election.
■ James Bauckman of Bellingham for the state superintendent of public instruction position held by incumbent Randy Dorn, who filed Monday for re-election.
■ Republican Kim Wyman for the position held by Secretary of State Sam Reed, who is not seeking re-election.
■ Democrat Troy Kelley of Lakewood for the state auditor position held by incumbent Brian Sonntag, who is not seeking re-election.
■ John W. Ladenburg, for Position 9 on the state Supreme Court.
Filing Monday for the District 2, Position 2 seat on the state Court of Appeals — which covers Clallam, Jefferson, Grays Harbor, Kitsap, Mason and Thurston counties — were Thomas Bjorgen of Olympia, Michael Lynch of Tumwater and Thomas Weaver Jr. of South Colby.
