More areas of Clallam County added to stage 2 voluntary water curbs

PORT ANGELES — More water users around the Port Angeles area have been given a stage 2 alert urging voluntary water conservation measures by the Clallam County Public Utility District.
The affected areas of Gales Addition (1,299 customers), Mount Angeles (171) and Monroe (85) join the city of Port Angeles in the stage 2 emergency because all areas share the Elwha River as the water source, said Mike Kitz, Clallam PUD water and wastewater system superintendent.

Other water districts in the Clallam PUD system include Lower Fairview, Evergreen and Carlsborg, which rely on groundwater, which is at a near-normal level for June, and Clallam Bay-Sekiu and Island View, which do not depend on snowpack and may not experience drought-related problems, Kitz said.
Nonetheless, the PUD is urging customers of all its districts to conserve water, he added.
