Big Sky Airlines is considering whether to provide commercial passenger airline service between Port Angeles and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
But there must be “guarantees that we will not lose any money,” said Craig Denney, executive vice president of the Montana-based commuter airline that uses 19-seat Metroliners.
Ways of avoiding financial losses could include the Port of Port Angeles, which operates William R. Fairchild International Airport, pre-buying seats — or offering some other sort of subsidy such as federal Essential Air Services funding, he said.
“If we look at service, we need some kind of guarantee that would cover the cost of operations,” said Denney in a telephone interview with the Peninsula Daily News on Tuesday from Big Sky’s Billings, Mont., headquarters.
“The main thing is that we are not in a situation to absorb any risks at this time.”
