NEAH BAY — A Neah Bay man who has been missing since Friday was spotted at 5:30 p.m. that day at a rest stop north of Centralia, said Neah Bay Police Officer Brandon Smith.
Mark Wise, 49, of Neah Bay phoned his wife, Susan Wise, at about 12:30 p.m. Friday and told her he would be home soon, she has said.
His truck was found in Portland, Ore., at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
A person who knew Wise met up with the missing man by chance at the Scatter Creek Rest Area on Friday.
The person hailed him and spoke to him, Smith said.
Wise did not try to hide from the person and seemed to be acting normally, Smith said police were told.
“Wise told the witness that he was trying to head south,” Smith said.
Smith said bank records show that Wise withdrew cash from an ATM at Little Creek Casino in Shelton just before he spoke with the witness.
Authorities are working to get ATM security camera video from the time Wise’s account was accessed, Smith said.
Neah Bay police have been in contact with police in Portland, as well as North Olympic Peninsula agencies, Smith said.
A missing-person poster was sent out Tuesday to law enforcement agencies in Washington and Oregon.
Susan Wise said she last saw her husband when she left their Neah Bay home for work at 7:45 a.m. Friday.
