Minor injuries after vans wreck east of Blyn on Highway 101

BLYN — Five people, including three children, suffered minor injuries in a collision involving two minivans on U.S. Highway 101 east of Blyn, the State Patrol said.

At 11:35 a.m. Friday, a 1995 Ford Windstar driven by Sheri S. Proctor, 47, of Port Townsend stopped for a vehicle that was turning left onto Pierce Road when it was hit in the rear by a 1991 Chevrolet Astro driven by Kathleen Marie Mendoza, 30, of Sequim, State Trooper Michael Simonson said.

The Astro continued east and left the roadway to the right, where it came to rest in a field, Simonson said.

Three children were injured, along with both drivers.

Proctor and her passenger, 14-year-old Kaylie Proctor, were treated and discharged from Olympic Medical Center in Port Angeles, Simonson said.

The older Proctor had back and neck injuries, and the younger Proctor was treated for cuts and scrapes, he said.

Two of the three children in the Astro were injured along with the driver, the State Patrol said.

Stephanie Calderon, 9, was treated and discharged from OMC after suffering back and neck injuries, the State Patrol said.

Miguel Najera, 6, was treated at the scene for leg injuries, Simonson said, while Mendoza was treated at the scene for cuts and scrapes, and cited for speed too fast for conditions and child restraint violations.

Two of the children — Stephanie and David Cisneros, 7 — were not wearing seat belts, Simonson said.

David was not injured in the collision, according to the State Patrol.

Both vehicles had reportable damage and were towed from the scene, the State Patrol said.
