PORT ANGELES — A Ford Explorer flipped onto its side on the eastbound shoulder of U.S. Highway 101 near the on-ramp to the Tumwater Truck Route late Friday morning, Port Angeles police said.
The driver, Colin James Terry, 20, of Port Angeles, was issued a citation for second-degree negligent driving and driving without proof of liability insurance, Deputy Chief of Police Brian Smith said.
Several people were taken to Olympic Medical Center with minor injuries, police said.
The names of the four passengers in the vehicle were not available. Terry was not listed as patient at OMC.
Terry told Port Angeles police officer Trevor Dropp that he was making a left turn onto the highway, lost traction and overcorrected, Dropp said.
The vehicle came to a rest on its side in the eastbound shoulder perpendicular to the highway near the exit to the Tumwater Truck Route.
The on-ramp to the truck route was temporarily closed while the SUV was being towed away.
