PORT ANGELES – Veterans on foot or by phone are pouring into the new VA Clinic – many of them prematurely.
The problem is that some vets have not met the paperwork requirements to enroll for VA medical benefits or eligibility for treatment.
“Just because they want to enroll doesn’t mean they’re eligible,” Vivian Branham, program specialist, said Wednesday from the clinic at 1005 Georgiana St.
A vet must have completed at least two years of service or have a service-connected condition if he or she served less time, she said.
A story on page A1 of Wednesday’s Peninsula Daily News said vets could call Dick Stumbaugh, Clallam County’s veterans assistant, for help to enroll.
Stumbaugh and others will do that in person starting today and running through Sunday at the Clallam County Fair.
A veterans booth has been set up on the fair’s main midway left of the grandstand.
