SEQUIM — A memorial service for a teenager killed when he swerved his truck to miss a deer has been set for Saturday, April 10.
The service for Tyler Braithwaite, 17, will be at 1 p.m. in the auditorium at Sequim High School, 601 N. Sequim Ave.
Braithwaite, who lived in Carlsborg, attended school at Sequim High as a junior.
On Sunday afternoon, he was killed while driving the Ford F-250 pickup his father had recently bought for him on a muddy U.S. Forest Service road south of Sequim.
The truck crashed into a tree near the Slab Camp area of Olympic National Forest.
Braithwaite — who was born Feb. 1, 1993, in Port Angeles — is the son of Tammy Sullenger, administrative assistant to the Clallam County commissioners, and Henry Braithwaite of Forks.
Two other teens were injured in the crash: Rachel Myers, 18, a Port Angeles High School senior, was flown to Harborview Medical Center with leg and facial injuries, and Michael Fleming, 16, a Sequim High School sophomore, was taken to Olympic Medical Center with a broken wrist and facial cuts.
Sequim School District Superintendent Bill Bentley said the district is on spring break, but counselors will be available for students next week.
Superintendent Jane Pryne of the Port Angeles School District, which is in session this week, said counselors were available Monday for students.
Arrangements for Braithwaite are by Drennan-Ford Funeral Home of Port Angeles.
